First of all, free-wheeling on ahill is ILLEGAL and DANGEROUS…. Now my favorite radio mechanic have done a show and found that Free-wheeling uses more gas and I'll try to explain how. To idle, the engine and throttle need to be using a certain amount of open throttle, however, with the vehicle coasting in gear the motors vacuum closes the throttle even lower to try and slow the vehicle thererfore using less fuel.
